A closer look
Belts rarely stretch where you need them to, and punching through bridle hide with a stubby pair leaves ragged edges. We built this plier with long handles so your grip produces enough force to push the drive tube clean through without bruising your palm. Rotate the head until the tube you want indexes over the anvil.
- Long handle leverage. The extra length on the steel arms gives you mechanical advantage over stiff hide. You squeeze once without leaning your whole chest over the bench, and the hollow cutter drives straight through the strap.
- Rotating wheel head. Turn the wheel to bring the right circular cutter into position. The turret clicks into place so the cutting edge aligns squarely with the flat base below, keeping the cut straight rather than oval.
- Clean punch edges. Hollow ground steel cutters shear the material rather than tearing it. You get a tidy hole in shoe leather, webbing, or heavy canvas without frayed edges or stray threads hanging off the back.
- Checking strap thickness. Look at the thickness of your belt before clamping down. For soft or thin fabrics, slipping a scrap piece of thick card behind the strap helps the cutter shear cleanly against the flat plate.
