A closer look

Security star screws hide a post right in the center that blocks a regular bit from seating. We bore out the tip of each bit here to clear that pin and ground the shafts extra long. You get straight down past deep plastic bezels without the chuck rubbing the housing.

• Center hole clearance. Standard star drivers bottom out against the center post and chew up the fastener shoulders. These bits are drilled straight down the middle so the splines make full contact across the whole depth of the screw head.
• Reach down deep recesses. Short bits leave the driver chuck scraping the walls of a counterbore before the tip touches steel. The long shank puts the business end into narrow wells inside dashboards, power tool casings, and flat pack furniture.
• Magnetized tip hold. Setting a tiny screw into a dark channel is where parts get lost under the bench. Each tip holds the fastener square on the lobes, so you can guide the screw straight into the threaded hole without holding it.
• Standard hexagonal shank. The base fits standard hex chucks on hand drivers and drills. The list beside this text shows the full run of security sizes in the set, so you can verify the tip you need before starting your repair.
